Growing up in Ada, OK, with absolutely zero connection to the music industry made my dream of making it in country music feel like a crazy fantasy. Luckily for me, as a very young teenager, I met Larry and Carol Large, who also shared the same love for country music as I did!!!
Even though we really had no clue how I was gonna make it, we all believed somehow I would...These stories of our journey are directly from Carol's point of view. I wouldn't trade these times in my life for the world and I hope you love Carol and Larry's stories as much as I love Carol and Larry themselves.
I would still be roofing houses in Ada, OK, without them.
I think it is so cool that Carol kept a journal on all the events that happened in Blake Shelton‘s life. It’s one thing to get Blake’s point of view but to hear another person’s perspective, who was there with him every step of the way, is priceless. I wish I had somebody writing all of those memories down for my career!
I learned a lot about Blake and his early days in country music - I know you will too.
Enjoy, Reba McEntire
Blake Shelton is not only one of my favorite people to interview, he’s one of my favorite people period. I’ve interviewed him a lot through the years and I thought I knew a pretty good bit about my friend —research makes for a great interview after all— but after reading Happy Anywhere, boy was I wrong! Carol Large’s book is so enjoyable and eye opening! Carol and her husband Larry have been close friends of Blake’s for a long time—they helped move him to Nashville right after high school! From learning about Blake’s hometown of Ada, Oklahoma, to seeing priceless photos, this book is full of Carol’s personal stories and memories that any Blake Shelton fan and friend will enjoy reading.

Carol Cash Large is a retired educator and author of
Happy Anywhere: Blake Shelton. While it is her first nonfiction book, it was over 30 years in the making. As a close friend of Blake, Carol has been an integral part of his life both personally and professionally since he was a pre-teen in Oklahoma. In fact, with the approval of his parents, she and husband, Larry, moved Blake to Nashville at the tender age of 17 just two short weeks after he graduated high school .
In addition to countless humorous stories relating to Blake, Carol has documented every aspect of his climb to the top in his field. She has also included many snapshots.
This particular project has been in the works for about 5 years and covers primarily his pre-teen years to the current time.
Carol holds MS and BS degrees in Education and is a certified Reading Specialist. She taught reading for many years in Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Anna Moser Orf took that picture on December 1, 2007 in Owensboro, KY at the Executive Inn Rivermont. There are a couple more of her pictures in the book as well.
I think you will find that it is a feel good book, full of humorous stories involving Blake throughout his career...mostly behind the scenes stuff that you would never find in a tabloid.
Carol will figure this out before the release date, but she is happy to autograph books.
The prologue takes you on a journey through Ada, Oklahoma, where Blake Shelton was born and bred. It includes what the town was like in the year he was born...right in the middle of the bicentennial.
Early chapters give a brief description of what it was like to be born into a huge loving family during those early years.
The stories begin when Carol & Larry meet Blake during his pre-teens and begin getting to know him.
Things really take off when, with his parents blessings, Carol and Larry move Blake to Nashville in 1994 and he begins the journey toward a career in country music.
The journey was a long one but Blake had to continue to set new goals as his horizons broadened.
The big question is always....how much has he changed...you'll have to read the book to answer that one.
